There is a story of a hawker who sold his only asset, his house, in order to finance the overseas education of his only son. He lived a hard life and understood the financial security of a good education. Hence, he gave up his comfort and risk the fact that his son may not be grateful for his act of selfless-sacrifice. When his son obtained his university degree, he obtained a job in that foreign country, married a foreign wife & lived in that foreign country. The hawker was eventually placed in a nursing home and financed by the local social welfare. This was because he did not wish to enforce his rights and entitlement as a father. “Love cannot be forced.” he said. He was hopeful that his son would return one day to at least say to him “thank you”. This story should remind us of what our Creator God and Father said “I am the LORD, your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery…”

We live in the slavery and bondage of doing our own thing, believing in the lies and empty promises of temporal happiness. How He waits patiently for our return.
