In today’s gospel, Jesus encountered scribes who look so highly of themselves and think they are more important than everyone else. They were proud and show-offs and enjoyed the praise and recognition of people.
Jesus challenges us to reflect on our motivations and the way we treat others. The scribes’ self-importance serves as a reminder to approach life with humility, recognizing that true greatness lies in our service to others. As we are all sons and daughters of the Father, we must be aware of the dignity each of us carry within. No one is greater than the other, no one is more important than the other; we are all equal in the sight of our Father in Heaven.
The story of the poor widow further emphasizes this point. Her small offering, though seemingly insignificant, is a powerful testament to her faith and trust in God. It’s a call for us to examine our own generosity—not just in terms of monetary contributions, but in how we give of ourselves, our time, and our love.
In a world that often focuses on status and abundance, Jesus invites us to see the value in simplicity and sincerity.
As we move forward, let us strive to embody this spirit of humility and generosity, treating each person we encounter with the dignity and respect they deserve as a child of God.
