Imagine an important exam we have to sit for, a very long journey we have to make, a critical assignment we have to submit. Imagine also that we know exactly what questions will be asked, and what the answers are, what to pack for the trip, how to go about the assignment. How should we prepare ourselves for each of [...]
One day, while biking with my son, we came across beautiful vines blooming with pink and white lantern-like flowers along the river. We paused to appreciate the sight and offer a prayer of gratitude to God for creating such beauty. As we observed, we noticed busy bees collecting nectar from the flowers. It was a mesmerising scene as they swiftly [...]
The theme of today’s liturgical readings is ‘Wisdom’. What is wisdom? The letter of St James says “…the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity.” (3:17) Seeker of true wisdom will find her when we build a closer relationship with God. We can look at [...]
Whatever we proclaim to others we must be able to turn that into our deeds daily. This was unlike the Pharisees and Scribes who did not practice what they preached. All that is said must be put into action straight away and we must follow the footsteps and teachings of Jesus if we were to find his way, truth, and [...]
Some of us can probably resonate with the Gospel reading for today, feeling unjust for the workers who were hired first as it does seem unfair to be paid the same wage as those who only worked for 1 hour, bearing the work under the terrible heat for the entire day. Why should they be paid the same as me, [...]
My mother-in-law is truly remarkable. She may be petite, but her character is strong and admirable. She is loud, straightforward, and unapologetically blunt, which sets her apart. Not only is she an amazing cook who can prepare big, sumptuous meals to feed a crowd, but she also has a big heart. Her strength and resilience were evident when my father-in-law [...]
Jesus teaches his disciples to be forgiving. No limit should be set on the number of times we need to forgive. Jesus tells the parable of the Unforgiving Servant to drive his point. Jesus demands that we show pity to our fellow servants because Jesus has always shown us mercy. In the community, we need to forgive one another. In [...]
In the first reading, God warns Ezekiel, the one appointed as the watchman of the People of Israel that if he does not warn the wicked to stop doing his foolishness, he too, will be punished. Both of them will die. If he does his job, he will not die, even if the wicked does not listen. St. Paul in [...]
When I first encountered the Our Father's Prayer in a convent school, its true meaning eluded me. We recited it as part of our National Pledge, but its depth remained hidden. Only during my RCIA journey was the veil lifted, and I grasped why Jesus taught His disciples how to pray to our Father. "Your Will Be Done, on earth [...]
Matthew 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." During the time of Jesus, the people are used to hiding their treasures in case of raids from their enemies or theft. Therefore, the treasure does [...]
