Encounter

As we begin the start of a new Advent season, week 1  calls us to reflect on our hope for the Messiah.

Let’s take some time to reflect on these 3 questions for this first week of Advent.

(1) What am I hoping for this Advent, and how can I entrust it to God?
(2) How did I bring hope to someone else this week?
(3) Where did I notice God’s light in the middle of challenges?

When you’re ready, scan the QR code on this slide or on the notice board downstairs and share your reflections any time during this week.

Are you still searching for ways
to grow in holiness
or to be accountable
during the upcoming Advent season?

We invite you to take part in a simple and meaningful activity together.

Each week of Advent has a theme — Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. These themes help us reflect on different aspects of the coming of Jesus. We would like to encourage you to reflect on how you lived out that theme during the week, whether in a small or big way.

We have set up an Advent Padlet page where you can share your reflection — it can be just one sentence, or even a picture. And you can also read what others in the parish have shared.

To join, scan the QR code to start sharing.

Let’s prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, not just individually, but together as a community.”

Pope Leo XIV: Supporting, welcoming, and accompanying those who struggle with suicidal thoughts

The Pope dedicates his prayer intention for the month of November to “those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts,” that they “might find support” in their community and “might be open to the beauty of life.”

Pope Leo XIV recalls that even believers can be “vulnerable.” He asks parishes and dioceses to listen to and accompany those going through a difficult time with “an attentive and compassionate heart.”

All over the world, almost 2 thousand people take their lives each day. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youth and young adults.

In the words of the prayer read by the Holy Father, “We come to you You this month for all the people who live in darkness and despair, may they always find a community that welcomes them, listens to them, and accompanies them.” He asks the Church – dioceses, parishes, religious congregations, associations of the faithful – to prevent the suffering of those who are desperate, who experience the temptation of taking their own life, which is made even more intolerable by loneliness. Everyone, believers included, “is also vulnerable to sadness without hope.” He asks the Lord to teach us “how to be close with respect and tenderness,” with “an attentive and compassionate heart,” to “offer comfort and support,” and encourages us to seek “the necessary professional help.”

Rebuild Hope, Restore Lives:
Support Gaza Rebuilding Efforts

In Gaza, countless families have lost everything — their homes, their schools, their safe spaces. Yet, even in the midst of devastation, hope remains. Together, we can help rebuild not just buildings, but lives, dreams, and futures.

Caritas Humanitarian Aid & Relief Initiatives, Singapore (CHARIS), is appealing for donations to support the rebuilding efforts for those affected by the ongoing conflict. Your generosity can provide shelter, education, and a chance for these families to begin again.

Small Gifts, Miraculous Impact.

You can donate via credit card or PayNow through CHARIS website. Alternatively, you can send a crossed cheque payable to “Humanitarian Aid Fund”, indicate “Gaza Rebuilding Efforts” at the back of the cheque, send the cheque to: CHARIS, 55 Waterloo Street, #07-02 Catholic Centre, Singapore 187954.

Please contact CHARIS at 6337-4119 or scan the QR code in the poster above to visit their website for more information.

Together, let’s help Gaza rise again

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Our Archdiocese has been working to build a more vibrant, evangelising and missionary Church. In sharing the Good News, we are bringing the hope and love of Christ to vast numbers of people.

Within our Church today, however, there are currently no premises large enough for our organisations and communities to hold their activities on a large scale. After much study, we concluded that the Church’s largest freehold site at 49 Upper Thomson Road could optimally be used to house major Archdiocesan organisations, a convention centre with overnight retreat facilities, a home for senior clergy – and more – for the long-term needs of the Church.

Beyond physical infrastructure, such a Catholic Hub can bring about a greater depth of communion. The facilities and organisations located there will enable collaboration for a more effective witnessing of the Gospel to the people of Singapore and reap economies of scale.
