Drinking more deeply from the living waters of our faith

Young one, words of wisdom, you must listen! To refuse, you cannot.

Retreats are woven into the RCIA process to give our catechumens opportunities to encounter God, delve more deeply into our faith and bond with one another. The second retreat of our journey, the Faith and Life Retreat, was held from 26 to 28 May, and began on a hot and humid evening. Our valiant catechumens made the pilgrimage to St Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Punggol. The retreat was presided by Fr Terence Pereira.

As the name of the retreat suggests, the focus was on strengthening our faith in God and how it should influence the way we lead our daily lives. Retreatants were led out of their comfort zone to confront and challenge human behaviours in our present day secular reality. Through thought-provoking and soul-searching sessions, they grew stronger in their resolve to follow Christ, and learnt to adjust their behaviours by drinking more deeply from the living water of our faith. It was admirable.

Balanced by fun activities and lively interactions, retreatants and facilitators were brought closer as we gained insights and perspectives into and from each other. Our pioneer generation vociferously put forth suggestions and advice and were not to be upstaged by the rowdy and enthusiastic ‘young ones’ with one senior even rooting for a song and dance.

All round, it was a good time!
