Theme – The Mother of all churches
The Liturgical colour theme is white for Ordinary Time. Our flower arrangements this week are composed of the colours white with gold/yellow, silver and green.
The basilica was once described as the “golden basilica” because it was decorated with gold and silver by Emperor Constantine the Great in the 4th century. White represents the nave of the basilica which features the tall, white statues of the Apostles. The Holy Stairs, considered the steps Jesus climbed during His Passion, are made of white marble and are encased in wooden risers. Hence, this week’s colours are composed of the colours white with gold/yellow, silver and green.
White, as a symbol of holiness, is the colour of light symbolising joy, cleanliness, goodness, loyalty, innocence, unifying, and purity resulting from Faith that listens to God’s voice and believes. It also symbolises righteousness, conquest, victory, peace, saints, completion, triumph, and beginning of a new life. Green symbolises praise, spiritual growth in Christ, nurtured by the Church and the Gospel. Green represents abundance, new life, anticipation, new beginning, flourishing healing, restoration, and hope.
