Today’s readings focus on where we place our trust and how we live out our faith.
The first reading, the prophet Jeremiah urges us to rely on the Lord who is the only true source of strength and stability. The second reading, Saint Paul reminds us that Christ’s resurrection is central to the faith. In the Gospel reading, Jesus turns the worldly value upside down. In a cash-is-king society like Singapore, where success is often measured by material wealth and professional achievements, the Beatitudes challenge us to place our trust in the Lord rather than in worldly pursuits. It reminds us that true contentment comes from our relationship with the Lord and faith in His providence.
Jesus blesses the poor, the hungry, and the sorrowful, while issuing warnings to the rich, the satisfied, and those who are praised by all. This radical
message invites us to reflect on our own lives and priorities. Are we seeking comfort and approval from the world, or are we aligning ourselves with the Lord’s values, even when facing hardship and opposition?
