Mark 13:24-32

In today’s readings, we are reminded of God’s love and protection for all of us in all circumstances. Hardships in life presents itself in many forms and often we lament and question why certain conditions or challenges are manifesting, and we find ourselves entrapped in a vicious cycle of sense making powered by human knowledge. We are prompted today to elevate ourselves spiritually and to trust in God’s timing and plan for all of us and to prepare ourselves for the return of Christ. Will the return of Christ happen in our lifetime? Are we ready for Him if he returns tomorrow? And if He does return tomorrow, will we rise to have everlasting life shining like stars forever or will we be condemned to everlasting shame and contempt?

The readings today also emphasize the lasting impact of a life lived in righteousness and service to others.  Fulfilling God’s expectations of living in righteousness and service to others means aligning our lives with His will, seeking to embody His love, justice, and truth in all that we do. Righteousness involves living in obedience to God’s commands, cultivating virtues like humility, compassion, and integrity. Serving others, especially the marginalized and needy, reflects Christ’s call to love our neighbours as ourselves. By doing so, we not only honour God but also become a light in the world, leading others to experience His grace and mercy. Living in righteousness and service transforms our lives and those around us, contributing to God’s redemptive work on earth.
