Seems like many people are trying their best to capitalise on social media and become content creators. How do you get more people to view your Youtube shorts? Your Instagram reels? When should I post them? Mornings? Evenings?
And yet, the greatest movie you are making in full HD (High Definition) is the one with only one release date, when your soul leaves your body and meets Jesus. When I watched Fr Ed Broom1 (love his slogan – Clean Sweep with Fr Broom) explain online the Four Last Things, he used the analogy of Jesus and you watching a movie – the movie of your life. And if you hoped to distract Jesus from watching certain parts of your movie or cover his eyes, you can’t. It will feel like a live-stream and that filled me with trepidation. Everything will be laid bare.
CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church) 1039
In the presence of Christ, who is Truth itself, the truth of each man’s relationship with God will be laid bare…
I won’t go into Particular Judgement vs Final Judgement, private vs public, etc. But if it piques your curiosity, do find out more about the 2-part Judgement Show. Jesus has given us the official trailer to Part 2 in Matthew 25:31-32:
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory… all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.”
Spoiler alert: You want to be a sheep.
Five-star Movie Review
Now, if the thought of watching your life pass before you and Jesus makes you sweat, don’t panic. We don’t know how much time we have left, but it’s never too late to start. Here are some tips:
- Regular cleaning of your soul
Don’t show up at your movie premiere covered in mud. Sin is like spiritual dirt, and confession is the deep clean your soul needs. Jesus gave us this incredible Sacrament of Reconciliation to wipe the slate clean so we’re not cringing through half our life review.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
- Looking for love in all the wrong places
Jesus isn’t going to ask how many followers you had or how cool your Spotify playlist was. The big question will be: Did you love? This is the main plot of your movie, so make it an Oscar-winning performance.
“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)
- Heaven and Hell are real
It’s easy to act like we have all the time in the world, but life is shorter than a TikTok trend. Jesus reminds us to stay ready because we don’t know when our personal credits will roll.
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)
The Finale
The idea of judgement can sound terrifying, like an exam you forgot to study for. But here’s the good news: Jesus wants you to pass. He’s not a harsh critic waiting to roast you—he’s a loving Saviour rooting for your redemption story.
So be ready and be excited to watch your life unfold again. Grab your seat beside Jesus. Popcorn optional.
