It is part of our upbringing to hear bad news rather than good news. The newspapers are usually filled with bad news. For many of us, we were told how badly we are doing in school or that we do not fit into the ‘in-group’, the ‘pops’ or that we aren’t good enough. Even if we win in the lottery, we are slow to fully believe. We check the number twice or even three times to make sure we are truly the winners. We are sometimes like St. Thomas, slow to believe the good news.

There is hesitation on the minds of many when they hear that God our Father or the Holy Spirit is waiting to speak to them. Is this for real? Does God our Father or even Jesus really speak to the individual and what more to little old me? We tend to look at our faults and tend to think that we are so unworthy that God our Father should speak to us. The truth is that this real.

No wonder the first words spoken by Jesus to us is ‘Peace be with you.’ We need the peace to be quiet and accept the truth that God loves us so much regardless of what the world thinks and what we think of ourselves. Easter is the celebration of redemption. We are made worthy through life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus had paid the price so there is no need to go back to the way we think of ourselves but to firmly see ourselves as how God our Father sees us. This will be new life for many of us.
