Liturgical Reflection for the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today’s Gospel reading highlights the response of Jesus to a trick question on “Levirate Marriage” from the law of Moses that seemed to contradict the teachings of Jesus. It was a trap set by the Sadducees to discredit Jesus’s authority.
The Sadducees were Jews and members of the priesthood and the Sanhedrin. Not much historical information has been found on them but what is known is their strict adherence to the Torah and its laws. They rejected all other books as heretical innovations. Hence, they did not accept the resurrection that is found in other books of the old testament such as Psalms and Isaiah.
