Name that Place
Michael’s Patio
Where
Name given to the space at the kitchen and seating area outside
Explanation
Our parish is blessed to be named after St Michael the Archangel, a protector and leader of the heavenly hosts against the forces of evil. We pay tribute to our patron saint and dedicate Michael’s Patio – a space of openness, abundance and sustenance – to welcoming everyone to this parish with love and a spirit of generosity.
Name that Place
Gilgal
Meaning ‘Circle of stones’ (Hebrew)
Where
Name given to the church wing comprising all the classrooms.
Explanation
A place where there was a school of the prophets
(2 Kings 4:38), and whence Elijah and Elisha, who resided here, “went down” to Bethel ( 2Kings 2:1-2). It is mentioned also in Deuteronomy 11:30.
[Gilgal was a place of memorial. Gilgal was a place of consecration and change. A place of worship. A place of judgment. A place of prophets.]
Name that Place
Angels’ Courtyard
Where
Name given to space at the Sacred Heart Grotto
Explanation
In the Angels’ Courtyard, this space between the two buildings and a place where parishioners hung out before Covid-19 restrictions. A central space of our parish envelops us in the constant protection of our Archangel and patron saint St Michael. As we gather, our guardian angels gather with us. Together with the heavenly hosts, who proclaim God our Father’s presence and protection, we are strengthened and comforted by His love.
Name that Place
Bethel
Meaning ‘House of God’ (Latin)
Where
Name given to the church wing with the Worship Hall.
Explanation
In Gen 13, Abram stayed here and built an altar on his way to Egypt and back as he parted ways with Lot. Later, in Gen 28, Jacob was fleeing from his brother Esau and fell asleep on a stone. Here, he dreamt of a ladder going up to heaven with angels going up and down it. In his dream, God promises to keep the covenant made with Abraham with Jacob. When Jacob woke up, he “took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called the place Bethel. (Gen 28:18).. “this stone, which I have set up for a pillar shall be God’s house…” (Gen 28: 22)
Name that Place
Elisha’s Spring
Where
Name given to Columbarium
Explanation
In 2 Kings 2: 20, prophet Elisha was heading from Gilgal to Bethel, where he performs the miraculous purification of water in Jericho. Elisha’s Spring symbolises the hope of everlasting life as all who sleep in the peace of Christ await to be welcomed into the eternal Paradise of God’s Kingdom.

Companions of Jesus
Starting 7 Mar 2022
It is at the Incarnation that the companionship of Wisdom for humanity appears most strikingly. Jesus Christ – Wisdom Incarnate – no longer calls us servants but friends, for he has made known to us all he has received from the Father (cf. John 15:15). Jesus longs to share all he has with us and to be our consolation in our cares and sorrows (cf. LEW 59).
Come discover the true and holy joy of Wisdom’s friendship everywhere, in everything and in the everyday as Companions of Jesus.

New audiobooks from the
Daughters of St Paul
In his World Mission Sunday message, Pope Francis reminds us that “To be on mission is to be willing to think as Christ does, to believe with him that those around us are also my brothers and sisters.”
As an aid for the synod, a highly recommended book is Pope Francis’ encyclical on fraternity and social friendship, Fratelli Tutti, now available as an audio book so you can listen to it as you commute, walk, cycle, wherever you are. Also on audiobook is Nostra Aetate, the ever relevant Vatican II document on our relationship with other religions. Both available on Audible, and wherever great books are heard! Soon also on Spotify and Apple Music.
