Theme – God in Whom we Trust
Today’s Gospel reading on “The Poor Widow’s Contribution” tells us that God judges the heart, not the worldly outcome. The poor widow gave more than just two small coins—she offered the spiritual gift of her generosity and complete trust in God. By giving all she had, she trusted that God would care for her and use her gift for good. This is infinitely more fruitful for the building of the Kingdom of God than a gift from someone’s excess. True trust is the ability to give freely, remain detached from it, and be ready and willing to offer everything we have—our entire livelihood—to God. It’s a spiritual gift with far greater eternal significance for the salvation of souls than all the wealth in the world.
The poor widow contributed all she had, her whole livelihood. We, too, need to learn from her example, contributing all our energies, gifts, and everything we are to serve God for His glory. We must seek to imitate and follow her holy example, asking God to help us to reflect His total gift by returning all to Him, entrusting our entire lives and livelihoods to Him.
The liturgical color theme is green for Ordinary Time, with accents of green, white, and pink. Green symbolizes spiritual growth in Christ, nurtured by the Church and the Gospel. It represents new life, anticipation, new beginnings, praise, flourishing healing, restoration, and hope. White symbolizes pure faith that listens to and believes God’s voice. Pink represents heavenly joy, joyful praise, the wealth of the Holy Spirit, grace, sweetness, gentleness, elegance, and the love of God.
