Theme – Christ, the Son of Man

In today’s Gospel reading Jesus’ teaching is on how we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. It is a journey to saving our eternal soul and to discover a spiritual fulfilment that surpasses anything this world has to offer. It begins with us choosing the Cross on every level of our being and ending with God stripping away all selfish desires and replacing them with a desire for sacrificial love.

When we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and lose our life, it means that we no longer think about ourselves. Meaning that the eye of our soul has turned away from ourselves and is focused only upon the will of God and the love of others. This will only be possible when we are free of the numerous selfish desires that often direct our actions day in and day out. We need to seek to eradicate everything within us that is selfish. By doing so, it will enable us to make the spiritual commitment so that we can carry the glorious and transforming Cross of Christ.

The Liturgical colour theme is green in Ordinary Time with green, white, and orange.

Green symbolizes spiritual growth in Christ, nurtured by the Church and the Gospel. Green represents new life, anticipation, new beginning, praise, flourishing healing, restoration, and hope. White symbolizes pure faith that listens to God’s voice and believes. Orange symbolizes the Fire of God, the Presence of God, and the Brightness of His Presence as the Glory of God.
